On 16 June 2011, the European Commission launched its new Campaign on smoking cessation "Ex-smokers are unstoppable". The second phase was launched in September with TV clips and a photo exhibition.
Targeting the 27.9 million Europeans aged from 25 to 34 years old, the Campaign will run from 2011 to 2013 and will focus on smoking cessation.
Its aim is to encourage 27.9 million Europeans to stop smoking by emphasising the advantages of quitting smoking.
On 14 September 2011, the Commission launched the second phase of the Campaign. Commissioner Dalli presented 2 new TV clips (linking tobacco use and pregnancy and tobacco use and physical activity as well as a photo exhibition portraying young people from the 27 EU countries sharing their personal experiences of smoking cessation.
Since the launch of the Campaign (i.e within 3 months) 20 000 people used iCoach, an online smoking cessation tool created in the context of the Campaign. The Campaign social media pages have been visited more than 500 000 times within the same period of time.
