On 6 February 2006, EPHA launched the manual “Creating national Public health alliances in new member countries of the European Union” in Latvia.
This event was organised as part of EPHA’s project, “Strengthening the development of national platforms on public health in new EU member states”, and in co-operation with the Civic Alliance Latvia.
There were around 40 participants representing NGOs, public administration and the media.

Within the framework of networking for public health in new EU member states, the project coordinator and assistant visited several NGOs in Lithuania in an attempt to involve more organisations in project activities.
During the two days from 30-31 March 2006, the project coordinator, A. Knabe, and assistant, I. Murniece, met with five NGOs in Lithuania:

The European Public Health Alliance (EPHA) concluded its three-year project "Building the Public Health Community across Europe" by organising an international conference. The conference "Health in the Enlarged EU" held in Bratislava on 16-17 April 2007, is settled by a final report now available.

On 14th of November, 2006 the Malta Recourse Centre (MRC) held a Practices Exchange Meeting on Networking in Public Health, in Malta .
As part of the EPHA’s Central and Eastern European project, the MRC, in cooperation with Civic Alliance Latvia (CAL), held a meeting for a variety of Maltese organisations working on public health in order to discuss the scope for setting up a public health network in Malta.

As part of the EPHA activities in CEE countries, a questionnaire with questions about public health and networking was sent out targetting specific NGOs during 2006.
Out of the 16 organisations targeted with the questionnaire, 5 sent out a completed response.
Slovenia: “Centre for AIDS Prevention and Vulnerable Groups” confirms that in their country there is a public health platform of NGOs, although civil society participation in public health decission making is not yet (...)

On 23rd of February EPHA, in partnership with the Latvian Civic Alliance, held a workshop on “Strengthening the networking of public health in Czech Republic”.
The workshop, which was held in Prague, was organised as part of the EPHA project “Strengthening the development of national platforms on public health in new EU member states”.
The aim of the workshop was to raise the awareness of NGOs in the Czech Republic of the importance of developing mutual (...)

The handbook “Creating national health alliances in new EU member states” by Geof Rayner gives valuable information on NGO development and public health promotion.
The handbook was prepared for the European Public Health Alliance to assist organisations and individuals in the new member countries of the EU in central and eastern Europe to stimulate their own voice for public health and to develop an organisational form to express this voice.

This two day training was organised within the framework of the EPHA project "Building the health community across Europe" and in partnership with Vilans (a project partner).
The main organiser of this event is the European Forum for Primary Care (hosted by Vilans), with several local partners, including the Semmelweis University in Budapest.

EPHA organised a conference “Clean Environment - Healthy Children”, in partnership with the Foundation for Children from Copper Basin, in Legnica, Poland from 2 - 3 June 2006.
The aim of the conference was to organise a discussion forum for various organisations from Poland and other countries on actual public health topics and raise awareness on collaboration between organisations. The conference was devoted to childrens’ health and how environment affects it.

The European Public Health Alliance (EPHA) in co-operation with The Civic Alliance Latvia (CAL) organised the Conference ”Platforms of NGOs in Latvia - The bridge to the European Union” on 20th of April 2006 in Riga.
