The "Health at a Glance: Europe 2010" report was jointly published by the European Commission and the OECD, compiling data from the latter and from Eurostat. The report presents key trends on health, health systems and health spending in the 27 EU Member States, plus the 3 EFTA countries (Iceland, Norway and Switzerland) and Turkey.

The rapid mass privatisation which followed the break up of the Soviet Union fuelled an increase in death rates among men, research suggests.

The World Health Organisation Europe Region (WHO EURO) launched a Prison Health Database in order to increase the awareness of the problems relating to health in Prisons, to monitor patterns in prison health and to ensure the promotion of public health in prisons.

A report by the EU’s statistical office, Eurostat, illustrates mortality data by cause for the Member States of the European Union. It also indicates that the leading cause of death differs greatly between the 25 Member States at national and regional levels.
According to statistics:
two thirds of deaths in the EU are caused by circulatory diseases and cancer.
Heart attacks, strokes and other circulatory diseases account for 41% of all deaths.

Eurostat has just released the Statistical Yearbook 2005 addressing regional data covering the European Union (EU) 25, as well as Bulgaria and Romania. The Yearbook is meant to be a practical statistical guide to the major issues relating to the evolution of the European Union.
