During the last year’s COP15 Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen it was unilaterally agreed to create a special Global Fund to assist the countries (in particular developing and small islands countries) with necessary adaptation and mitigation activities to counteract climate change consequences.
However, it has never been clearly stated where this money is to come from, how it would be different from other development aid - for example previous Overseas Development Asisstance (...)

A conference co-organised by Action for Global Health, The EU-Red Cross Office, and the European Alliance against Malaria developed recommendations on the role of community participation in the health sector in developing countries and how best this should be financed.

The G8 has since the Gleneagles summit committed to action to improve health in developing countries. The G8 health experts met in Venice to prepare the health part of this years G8 communique, also meeting with civil society representatives for one day.

10 December 2008 was the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of the Human Rights, and was marked by Action for Global health with the release of a statement on the Right to Health. This statement called on Member States and the international community to undertake action to ensure the right to health is realised everywhere in the world.

Debate in Brussels on the future of development cooperation policies
On 17 October 2008 The European Policy Centre organised a debate on the future of development cooperation policies. Over the past few months, it has become increasingly apparent that the current financial crisis is set to become one of the most significant in global history. Appropriate action has been sought, and world leaders have agreed that reform of the financial system is required on a global scale. The G20 is set to meet in Washington DC on 15 November 2008 to try to come up with a set of measures to address the crisis.
