A recent pan-European study has reviewed the factors which influence how annoyed a person feels about road traffic and aircraft noise. Among its findings, residents in terraced housing or apartments were less annoyed by road traffic noise than residents in semi-detached or detached housing.
People who are exposed to long-term noise may experience annoyance as well as health problems, including high blood pressure (hypertension). This study, conducted under the EU HYENA project [[HYENA (...)

Both non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and climate change are enormous threats to global health - synergies attempting to tackle these major health threats have received limited attention to date. The increasing burden of NCDs poses an enormous threat to populations and health systems across the globe. At the same time, the impacts of climate change are predicted to have profound public health effects and there is an urgent need for transition to low-carbon economies. Although important (...)

The Plenary vote took place on 6th February 2013.

Sound level of motor vehicles
In December 2011, the European Commission adopted a proposal for a new regulation aimed at tightening noise emissions standards for cars, vans, lorries and buses. To become law, the regulation now needs approval by the Parliament and member states. Vehicle noise standards were last updated in 1996, so were long overdue.
More than 200 million European citizens (one in three) are regularly exposed to traffic noise levels that put their health at risk. One in (...)

WHO Europe released a new assessment on the burden of disease from environmental pollution - in particular from noise pollution, which shows that noise especially from road traffic, railways and airports is a critical public health problem: it is the second biggest environmental problem affecting health after air pollution.
The report on the burden of diseases from noise from the WHO Europe shows that over 1 million healthy years of life are lost every year in the western countries of WHO (...)
