Strong Health Workforces and Sustainable Health Systems - HW4All


As a fundamental pillar of the social and welfare model that defines and strengthens European identity, a solid health workforce is a public resource that must be secured at the local, national and global levels. Mental healthcare under-resourced in too many countries, says Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)


8 July 2014 - According to the OECD, mental health is still not a priority in many countries. Governments should review the importance and influence of mental illness in people’s lives. It is estimated that people with a severe mental disorder die up to 20 years earlier than the general population, as well as being six to seven times more likely to be unemployed, with one in two people with mental ill-health having complications in their career (prospects, wages and productivity). (...)

EPSCO Council adopts conclusions on economic crisis and health care


On 19-20 June 2014, the Employment, Social Policy, Health and the Consumer Affairs Council (EPSCO) held a meeting in Luxembourg. On the agenda were issues including the Social dimension of the European Monetary Union (EMU) and the health impact of the crisis. Launch of European Call to Action ’A Health Worker for Everyone, Everywhere!’


On 5 June 2014, the partners of the ’Health workers for all and all for health workers’ (HW4All) project released a European Call to Action in support of the implementation of the WHO Global Code of Practice on the International Recruitment of Health Personnel. EPHA participates in meeting between Member States and Advisory Group on ’Fruit and Vegetables’ and EU School Fruit Scheme Experts Group


On 20 May, EPHA participated in a joint meeting between EU Member States (MS), DG Agriculture’s Advisory Group on Fruit and Vegetables and the EU School Fruit Scheme (SFS) Expert Group. The meeting was an opportunity to review the current SFS implementation period.
