On World Health Day (7 April 2010), a new report by Action for Global Health was launched simultaneously in six places across the European Union. The report "2010 Reality Check: Time is Running Out to Meet the Health Millennium Development Goals" urges European leaders to focus on concrete issues and take up actions that can break the cycle of poverty and ill health in developing countries. "Health is a right in Europe and beyond, for all human beings, regardless of their place in the world", said new European Commissioner for Development Andris Piebalgs in his key speech at the Action for Global Health Cross-Europe Conference in the European Parliament on 2 March 2010. On 1 March 2010, EPHA sent an open letter to the Chairman of the Polish Parliamentary Health Committee Bolesław Piecha. The letter was sent in reaction to the announcement by the Polish Governement of plans to include a smoking ban in all enclosed public places and workplace, to the legislation to protect public health against the consequences of tobacco use and tobacco products.

The European Public Health Alliance (EPHA) submitted its response to the on-line consultation of the European Commission (EC) on Global Health at the beginning of December 2009. The response elaborates on the questions outlined in the annex to an "issues paper" on global health produced by the EC. This article presents an executive summary of EPHA submitted response.
