This June 12th The European Child Safety Alliance launched its Child Safety Report Cards. They score 31 countries on their level of adoption, implementation and enforcement of over 100 proven strategies and policies to prevent unintentional injury – good practices known to save children’s lives. The Cards show the need to increase adoption of proven child safety policies to protect Europe’s most vulnerable citizens and future society.

The European Commission published its latest Eurobarometer study on attitudes of Europeans towards tobacco. The document provides up-to-date figures on tobacco-related issues particularly relevant in view of the forthcoming Commission proposal for a revision of the Tobacco Products Directive.

Over the past few weeks, the issue of baby milk products has been high on the EU agenda. The World Health Assembly passed a Resolution on Maternal, Infant and young child nutrition and the European Parliament adopted a Report on the European Commission Proposal for a Regulation on Food for infants and young children and food for special medical purposes.

After receiving National Roma Integration Strategies form the EU Member States (MSs), the European Commission has analysed the proposals and, along the launch of the Communication on the strategies of 21 May 2012 called on EU Member States for their comprehensive implementation to improve the economic and social integration of Europe’s 10 to 12 million Roma. Regretfully, out of 4 focus areas of Roma inclusion, health and housing lack strategic and systematic vision.

In May 2010, the World Health Organization (WHO) produced a set of 12 recommendations on the marketing of foods and non-alcoholic beverages to children.

Roma and Travellers together comprise the largest set of minority groups in Europe, and the biggest one that faces discrimination and other human rights abuses.
