On March 24, 2012, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the World Health Organisation Europe jointly launched a new report on Tuberculosis (TB) in Europe. It shows a mixed picture in the WHO EURO region and a 7% decrease in the EU.
On the World TB Day, the ECDC and the WHO launched the 2012 monitoring report on TB, entitled "Tuberculosis surveillance and monitoring in Europe 2012”.

The WHO European Region’s series of “Young people’s health as a whole-of-society response” shows that gender differences and inequalities affect various aspects of illness, health and wellbeing in girls and boys in Europe. The European Men’s Health Forum (EMHF) - EPHA member - has recently brought to light the issue of the recession threatening men’s mental health with an increasing number of male suicide rates in Ireland and the UK. The EMHF also made reference to the report published by the Institute of Public Health (IPH) in Ireland on the impact of the recession and unemployment on men’s health in Ireland.

The World Health Organisation published a report providing information on the proportion of adult deaths due to tobacco. It shows that five million people died because of tobacco in 2004: one person every six seconds. It estimates that one billion people are projected to die during the 21st century unless strong actions are taken.

The World Health Organisation Europe Region consults and draws the European Public Health Action Plan for strengthening public health capacities and services. The deadline to comment is the 6 April 2012.

The newly published report from the WHO Center on Environment and Health (ECEH) assessing environmental health inequalities in Europe, emphasizes that interventions to tackle them need to be based on an assessment of their magnitude and on the identification of population groups that are most exposed or most vulnerable to environmental risks.

On 21 May 2010, the World Health Assembly adopted the WHO Global Code of Practice on the International Recruitment of Health Personnel to mitigate the ongoing problem of migration of qualified health professionals. EPHA has developed a briefing on the WHO Code, on its implementation at EU and Member States level and on the challenges that are faced in this area. EPHA also makes recommendations on how the Code can be implemented.
