On Wednesday 19 November 2003, EPHA organised a conference in Brussels on behalf of the European Commission, DG EuropeAid. The event brought together 120 participants ranging from Commission officials, Ministries of Foreign Affairs from EU and CEE countries, international organisations and NGOS from the EU and Belarus.
The conference Belarus : our future neighbour, Building civil society through partnership reviewed the results of the EU funded Civil Society Development Programme (2000-2003) in Belarus. Projects featured included support for regional TV stations, youth and education projects and legal advice services.
The afternoon session was devoted to the Institution Building Partnership Programme (IBPP) which will have a forthcoming Call for Proposals in 2004. Although Belarus will not be part of this Call, EU funding for civil society in Belarus is under review.
