The European Commission and the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) launched a consultation on a scientific opinion on the potential health risks posed by chemical consumer products resembling food and/or having child-appealing properties.

In advance of this consultation, the SCCS has been requested to work on a pre-consultation opinion on the issue. Available here, the SCCS opinion developed notably the following issues:

- products commonly ingested by accident,
- adverse effects following an ingestion,
- target audience: children and the elderly,
- characteristics of products resembling food,
- characteristics of child appealing products.

Interested stakeholders can participate in the consultation by filling in the following questionnaire until 11 February 2011.
