EPHA offers its support for the Memorandum to the Belgian Presidency by the European Cyclists Federation, Fietsersbond and Gracq. It highlights key issues for bicycle users that these organisations would like to see high on the Presidency agenda and integrated into EU transport policies.
In view of the coming adoption of important pieces of legislation in the field of transport such as the White Paper on a Sustainable Future for Transport, ECF has issued with Fietsersbond and Gracq, a Memorandum of bicycle users organisations adressed to the Belgian Presidency.
The Memorandum focuses on three main messages, supported by EPHA:
’’Life-long bicycle education: offer cycling education schemes at schools;
Traffic code: make two-way cycling in one-way street the default option;
Fiscal stimuli: give fiscal incentives to promote cycling to work; apply reduced VAT for repairing bicycles."
Considering the increasing level of overweight and obesity across the European Union and the role physical activity can play in the fight against this burden, EPHA strongly supports the common ECF, Fietsersbond and Gracq demand.
The European Cyclists Federation press release on the Memorandum is available here.
