MEPs Antonyia Parvanova (ALDE), Francoise Grossetete (EPP) and Gianni Pittella (S&D) submitted the declaration on 17 May 2010, supporting the establishment of an annual European Patients’ Rights Day.

It needs support of half of MEPs before the 17th of September to be formally adopted by the European Parliament.

The Active Citizenship Network, who supported the tabling of the declaration, has been organising European Patients’ Rights Day conferences for several years. At this year’s event on 6 May, European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy John Dalli lent his support to the instiutionalisation of this practice. Several MEPs declared their intention to sign.
