A Charter of Rights for older people in need of long-term care was adopted on 10 May 2010 by EPHA member, AGE Platform Europe.
The Charter calls for greater solidarity among generations in response to the proliferation of elder abuse and to promote high quality, long-term care services for older people.
At their General Assembly on 6-7 May, AGE members agreed to adopt the Charter, in line with their policy objectives to combat elder abuse and protect the dignity and well-being of older people who become dependent.
An accompanying guide is developed to explain how these rights can be implemented and practice, to ensure that dignity and right to self-determination is protected.
AGE Platform Europe is a European network of organisations of people aged 50+ and represents over 22 million older people in Europe. AGE aims to voice and promote the interests of the 150 inhabitants aged 50+ in the European Union and to raise awareness of the issues that concern them most.
