What is it?

EPHA’s PDP is an excellent opportunity for those new to Brussels to get an introduction to the European Union and to Brussels life. Open to EPHA members as well as non-members, it provides a chance for young professionals working in health-related organisations to develop their social and professional networks. It is also FREE for participants from EPHA member organisations!

The deadline for registrations for the Autumn Programme is 31 August 2010. Interested organisations and individuals are encouraged to register as soon as possible as places are limited and registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Repeat participation is allowed, depending on availability of spaces.

The programme flyer is attached below.

Structure

EPHA’s PDP consists of 5 full days of presentations and training in October, known as the Introductory Week, and 6 Master Classes, occurring every six weeks until June 2011, to ensure continual training and development.

The details of the Introductory Week including the timetable are attached below.

The Master Classes will take place on:

- Wednesday 15 December 2010 (Campaigning)
- Wednesday 26 January 2011 (Building coalitions as a strategy for change)
- Wednesday 16 March 2011 (Evidence-based decision-making or politics and interests?)
- Wednesday 27 April 2011 (Influencing policy - where lies the power?)

All Master Classes also include training on communication and advocacy, building on the participants’ progress throughout the programme.

Purpose and Obligations

EPHA’s PDP provides introductory level training through interactive sessions, giving participants the opportunity to:

- Engage with key actors in public health policy making at EU level;
- Learn about advocacy, communication and the European Union;
- Visit the European institutions;
- Develop social and professional networking skills;
- Practice presentation and public speaking skills;
- Improve communication skills;
- Meet their peers;
- Build a social network.

Please consider the time commitment for your organisation carefully if you are thinking of registering a participant, as your organisation will be required to sign a memorandum of understanding before the programme begins, committing your organisation to allowing the participant to attend all PDP sessions and Master Classes.

Registration

Please contact EPHA’s Governance and Membership Coordinator Sascha Marschang at s.marschang@epha.org if you would like to register a participant or if you have any questions about the Professional Development Programme.

For non-EPHA member organisations, participation in EPHA’s PDP is 650 euros per person for the year.
