The Vienna International Academy of Holistic Medicine (Wiener Internationale Akademie für Ganzheitsmedizin, GAMED) functions as a focal point and centre of excellence in the broad field of complementary medicine. It offers a wide range of special events, education and training for physicians, scientists, students and members of health and social professions, as well as services for interested members of the public, patients and their relatives. Its activities focus on networking and promoting collaboration and knowledge exchanges (within complementary medicine and between traditional and complementary medicine); integrating complementary medical methods in healthcare; improving the quality of complementary medical procedures; and providing information, service and advice to patients.
GAMED is a private society that represents its members who come from health care professions such as medical doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, psychotherapists and others.
GAMED is dedicated to the scientific study of the medical basis for complementary medicine and combining clinical experience and best practices of medical professionals. It is also concerned with postgraduate education in CAM on a general and propaedeutic level – it does not provide training for single CAM methods.
GAMED participates in the CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine) research and teaching network and engages in constant exchange of information with universities and hospitals, complimentary medicine centres, professional associations, doctors and health insurers. GAMED is particularly interested in practical and scientific education as well as in organising seminars, training courses and international conferences.
