EPHA member, the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP) has been awared Health on the Net (HON) Foundation Code, “HONcode” certification in January 2010.
The HON Foundation is a non-governmental organisation, set up to address the reliability and usefulness of medical information on the Internet.
EAHP undertook the process of having its website certified to pursue its commitment to transparency and trustworthiness. Roberto Frontini, President of EAHP said “we are delighted the HON Foundation certified EAHP website as it is essential to the EAHP leadership and members that website visitors are not mislead, in particular over commercially-related information. At a time when a heated debate on the policy to provide information to patients is taking place in European institutions, EAHP wanted to reassert its non-for-profit status and ethical standards”.
Displaying the HONcode logo implies that EAHP abides by the following pledges:
Give qualifications of authors
Complementarity: information to support, not replace the doctor-patient relationship
Confidentiality: respect the privacy of site users
Attribution: cite the sources and dates of medical information
Justifiability: ability to back claims
Transparency: accessibility, provide valid contact details
Financial disclosure: provide details of funding
Advertising: clearly distinguish advertising from editorial content as per the eight principles of the certification organisation.
The home page of the EAHP website now displays the HONcode logo.
