Health Impact Assessment capacity building project for North West of England

The North West Health Impact Assessment (HIA) Capacity Building Programme is a two year programme, funded by NHS North West, which commenced in January 2009.

The programme, a partnership between the North West Public Health Observatory and the International Health Impact Assessment Consortium (IMPACT), aims to increase capacity for HIA and create a culture whereby the potential health effects of activities and policies are routinely and systematically considered by public sector organisations and their partners.

As part of the programme’s training and development plan, a series of "Leadership for HIA" seminars have been held across the North West region to guide strategic leaders on how HIA can best be used to strengthen their organisation. In the next few months, a further range of training will be offered including:

- HIA screening tools

- HIA policy development

- HIA action learning sets

- Comprehensive practitioner training

The next seminar for the Greater Manchester region takes place on 10 Feburary 2010 at the Salford Innovation Forum. A flyer for the event and the registration form are available here.

There is no charge for this event but places are limited, so please return the registration form as soon as possible to j.harris1@ljmu.ac.uk.
