The morning was devoted to presentations. Tamsin Rose, a European Health Activist, opened the floor with a presentation on how the alcohol industry operates in the EU environment. Michele Simon from the Marin Institute, an Alcohol-industry watchdog in the US, presented industry tactics. Practices include consolidating into multinational conglomerates, lobbying, and targeting young people, Mr. Simon explained.

The last presentation was given by Mr. Joop Bouma, an investigative reporter for the Dutch newspaper Trouw, who used the example of Philip Morris to illustrate industry tactics. Based on original documents, he documented how the Tobacco firm targets scientists, members of parliament and members of governments.

The afternoon session was devoted to group discussions with presentations on national examples of industry lobbying. This session offered the possibility for participants to exchange examples of good practices and create partnerships.
