Who are we?

Established in 1992, the European AIDS Treatment Group (EATG) is a NGO at the forefront of the development of the civil society response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Europe. The EATG is a European network of 97 nationally-based activists.

Who do we represent?

EATG is a European patient-led advocacy organisation that represents and defends the treatment-related interests of people living with HIV and AIDS.

What is our mission?

Our mission is to achieve the fastest possible access to state of the art medical products, devices and diagnostic tests that prevent or treat HIV infection or improve the quality of life of people living with HIV, or who are at risk of HIV infection. We want to enable people to significantly influence the development, testing and authorisation of HIV treatments; to advocate for the best practices of care and treatment; to promote access to the latest available information about treatment legislation for patients, health care providers as well as policy makers; to influence changes in legislation and patent law in order to support the lowest achievable cost for HIV treatment, including the support for generic medicine, to monitor the changes in health care systems and policies to ensure the rights and the quality of services influence positively the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS.

What do we do?

Policy/advocacy

The EATG advocates at the European level in the interests of people living with HIV/AIDS for better more equal and quicker access to vital medication; monitors the political health agenda of the EU institutions and international policy makers; prioritizes political initiatives, sets up action plan and undertakes active advocacy work on them; publishes position papers, reports and open letters on public health and HIV-related policies; works together with other NGO’s and key opinion leaders to promote better organisation and legislation of clinical trials throughout Europe.

Scientific research

The EATG promotes the harmonisation of the best available clinical practices, standards of care and access to the latest and best available therapies and diagnostic tools throughout Europe with a particular regard to Central and Eastern Europe. The EATG brings together scientific researchers and pharmaceutical industries. The organisation reviews clinical trial protocols; promotes bests practice procedures and ethics, universal access to fair, sustainable, affordable drugs, research developments improving the quality of living for people living with HIV/AIDS.

Training

The EATG organises trainings on treatment preparedness, literacy and advocacy to obtain the universal access of HIV prevention, treatment and care in Europe. The organisation aims at empowering more people living with HIV/AIDS to become skilled advocates. Trainings are intended for people living with HIV/AIDS, health care professionals, governmental officials, NGO’s, researchers, media, etc.
