Aim of the Conference

The aim of the DIETS conference is to identify and exchange the latest evidence on how to improve the nutritional health status of European citizens. Networking, multidisciplinary working, Life Long Learning and other key mechanisms have already been identified through the previous DIETS conference and will be further explored.

The future of the DIETS Network will be discussed with the full support of the European Federation of Associations of Dietitians (EFAD).

The conference will host high level experts and policy makers from all over the European Region. The European Commission will present their Strategy for Europe on Nutrition, Overweight and Obesity related health issues: the strength of a comprehensive approach and explain the links between their Strategy and DIETS as a network. Other speakers will focus on leadership, preceptorship and learning to provide a quality service, which was the main discussion point at the 2nd DIETS conference in 2008

The current status and future recommendations for Life Long Learning based on outcomes from the DIETS network will be presented by the coordinator EU Thematic Network DIETS.

Background information on DIETS

DIETS (Dietitians Improving the Education and Training Standards) was launched in October 2006 and is led by the University of Plymouth. EPHA is a member of the network. DIETS builds on the excellent foundations which the European Federation of Associations of Dietitians (EFAD) established through their initiatives in education, such as developing the European Benchmark Statement for Dietitians.

DIETS aims to encourage regular contact between its members through its website, newsletters, meetings and conferences.
