The first EPHA Internship programme began this month with an induction week that was a resounding success. The pilot scheme saw 6 interns from various organisations: EPHA, the Health and Environment Alliance (HEAL), SmokeFree Partnership (SFP) and North West Health Brussels Office (NWHBO) pass through its doors for the beginning of a six month traineeship here in Brussels.

The week was organised to give the 6 new entries to the Brussels scene a crash course in the EU and a flavour for life in the European capital. The interns were welcomed on Monday 8 September with a talk about EPHA, housekeeping and lunch. This was followed by a tour of the city, from the EU institutions to the Grand Place.

For the rest of the week the interns were given talks by EPHA staff on lobbying, politics and history of the Union as well as being asked to develop a project proposal and to give a presentation. The week concluded with a wrap up session and feedback and then the interns were free to roam the city and return bright and early on Monday morning to start their placements.

The Interns will now return once a month for assessment sessions and talks from representatives of the Institutions and other stakeholders. The programme will finish in February 2009 when the full programme for Spring/Summer 2009 programme starts (please find details of the February 2009 internship and how to apply below).
