The interactive European platform in form of the Citizens-Science website has been created in 2007. This website allowes the communication between CSOs and scientists/academics and policy makers on common research issues.
The People and Science website has the aim to be a tool for active exchange of CSOs and researchers proposing research topics and collaborations respectively.
The website has different interactive sections such as:
Research policy discussion: Two parts under this rubric can be found: a research policy forum which is open to scientists, CSOs, policy makers and all interested citizens and the rubric background information which can include publication about research policy and useful links.
The first rubric of the ’Research Policy Discussion Section’ is the ’Research policy forum’. This forum offer a possibility for scientists, NGOs and policy makers to discuss research policy issues in the European context. Suggestions are made on the website about proposals for issues that might be discussed in this forum. Interested parties are invited to post their reflections, proposals, analyses on this secions.
Research Partnerships: The Research Partnership section of the website is a more experimental part. It is based on the conviction that researchers and CSOs can and should do research together. The implication of CSOs in research should create a win-win situation for research and innovation. This section provides a list of "Good examples" of CSO-academia resear partnerships that will also live from the input of the users of this website. It is an open place for researchers and civil society to meet and find new partners to work on existing projects or develop ideas for future one.
Researchers and/or CSO representatives are asked to give a description about their idea/propasal in a few words and some background information on their workfield. Interested parties can also use this section of the website to find interested proposals in the list of ’Good examples’. In this section examples of successful research cooperation between NGOs and researchers are displayed.
