Member States were invited to hold national competitions for the best consumer campaign of the year using the the key theme of the European Consumer Day, "know your rights, use your rights". Each Member State would then submit their best consumer campaign to a short-list of the European Commission so that the best one could be selected. The purpose was to give momentum to national and independent organisations promoting consumer rights and to highlight relevant consumer issues for each Member State.
First prize went to Finland for a campaign that aims at educating young adults on consumer rights and responsibilities through a web-game.
