Following the promising results achieved at the first European Patients’ Rights Days held on 29 March 2007 in the European Parliament, the Active Citizenship Network (ACN) encourages organisations active in the health field to proactively celebrate the second edition of the event that will take place on 18 April 2008.
The main objective is to promote the European Charter of Patients’ Rights [1] among lay people and calls upon national stakeholders to further strategies related to patients’ rights in each country.
In order to support the 2008 European Patients’ Rights Day, ACN suggests organisations:
handout the European Charter promotional leaflets and posters in healthcare facilities,
disseminate information to patients and health practitioners in waiting rooms located in clinics and hospitals,
set up stands to promote the initiative in public spaces,
hold press conferences to highlight the aims of the European Day,
organise seminars or conferences to analyse and discuss the situation of patients’ rights and the potential way forward in your country.
In return for free publicity, the European Day budget will cover the translation of Patients’ Rights in your country’s language and the provision of all documentation required to promote the event. Moreover, you will have the possibility to use the official logos of the European Charter of Patients’ Rights, the European Day, and ACN. All organisations participating at the event will be promoted on a dedicated website.
In order to call upon European policy-makers, ACN to advocate the institutionalisation of the European Day, organisations are invited to:
send a brief report in English of activities that were carried out,
create a list of signatures in support of the European Charter,
send photos of such activities.
