The Health & Environment Alliance (HEAL) is a non-governmental organisation aiming to improve people’s health through better environmental policy-making at European level and by raising awareness of how environmental protection improves health. It achieves this by creating opportunities for better representation of citizens’ and health experts’ perspectives in the environment and health-related policy-making. HEAL is now recruiting a Finance and Administrative Officer to run the day-to-day administration and finance system of the organisation ensuring the efficient administration of its Secretariat in Brussels.

Responsibilities

- Finance: keep track of the cash flow and monitor expenditure by preparing periodical financial reviews work with accountant book-keeping and registering expenditure assist the Executive Director in budgetary planning processing of claims, payments, invoicing manage relations with suppliers and contractors management of HEAL’s contracts, budgets (cash flow planning, financial controls) and projects

- Administration: liaise with the social secretariat concerning payslips calculation, staff leave, etc. process membership applications and maintain up-to-date files on members filing of HEAL administrative documents such as accounts and statutes with the Belgian authorities assist in the maintenance of HEAL’s IT infrastructure and website process HEAL correspondence and manage electronic and paper filing systems

- Required qualifications and skills: Diploma in finance and/or accounting and 2 years of relevant experience in financial management and budget operations including project-based budgets Knowledge and experience in book-keeping principles and processes Knowledge of the Belgian administrative systems and requirements Fluent written and spoken English and French Proficiency in standard office software packages Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work well as part of a team Organisational and administrative skills Time-management skills and ability to prioritise Understanding of the goals of HEAL

HEAL offers: Standard employment contract according to Belgian law on a part-time basis of 0,75 subject to a 6-month trial period A lively and inspiring working environment within a multicultural team in Brussels. Flexible working time. Gross salary range will be between 1500 - 1800 Euros per month depending on experience, based on a 12 month system.

Starting Date: 1 - 10 February 2008
