The EU drugs action plan (2005-2008) sets out the objective to prevent drug-related crime. But before countries can measure the extent of such crime or assess the impact of measures to counter it, they must first agree on a common language to describe the problem.
This challenge was taken up by the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMEA) on 26 June 2007, on the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. In its last policy briefing, EMEA explores the different types of offences that might be encompassed under a general heading of drug-related crime.
