Brussels, (30 April 2007): The Smoke Free Partnership officially launched its website on the 30 April 2007, a resource for individuals and organizations interested in tobacco control in Europe.
Despite evidence that tobacco control measures by the European Community and within the Member States have had a positive on smoking rates and saved thousands of lives, smoking still remains the largest single cause of preventable death and disease in Europe.
The Smoke Free Partnership (SFP) is a strategic, independent and flexible partnership between the European Respiratory Society, Cancer Research UK (both organisations are EPHA members) and the Institut National du Cancer.
The Smoke Free Partnership aims to promote tobacco control advocacy and policy research at EU and national levels in collaboration with other EU health organisations and EU tobacco control networks.
The website’s resources address smoke free environments, taxation and smuggling of tobacco products, tobacco product regulation and the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. Reports and publications of the Smoke Free partnership can be easily downloaded as well as essential tools such as European case law and national smoke free legislations. Furthermore, users will be able to find useful links to all national and international Tobacco Control organizations.
