Events that EPHA attended
On 2 April, Hannah Branston and Frazer Goodwin attended the EU expert workshop on Public Health, Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights at the European Paliament in Brussels, regarding the EU’s input to the global debate.
From the afternoon of the 2 April until 5th April Frazer Goodwin attended a meeting of the European Network for Global Health.
On 11 April Silvia, Hannah and Anne attended the ENVI Commitee at the European Parliament in Brussels. Hannah also attended the INTA Committee meeting regarding the legal action by NOVARTIS against the Indian government regarding the Patentabillity of Glivec/Gleevec.
On 16 April Silvia attended the workshop organised by IFAVA entitled Building National and EU support for Expanding School Fruit and Vegetable Programs. The conclusions of the workshop were presented the following day to EU Parliament agriculture and health commitee members in a lunch organized by FRESHFEL in the European Parliemant.
On 18 April Silvia attended a High Level Discussion Group on Trans fats at the European Parliament. The same day in the afternoon Silvia attended European Life Science Forum organized by the German MEP Jorgo Charzimarzakis.
Lara attended the plenary meeting of the EU Platform on Diet, Physical Activity and Health on the 19 April, which was followed by a conference on the importance of fruit and vegetables on our diet.
On 26 and 27 April, Lara attended the Stakeholder Consultative Platform of the European Food and Safety Authority.
Events that EPHA organised
On 16-17 April, EPHA held an International Conference entitled "Health in the Enlarged EU".
The Annual General Assembly took place at the same time. Results and minutes are already available.
On the 25 April, a Health and Consumer Intergroup meeting was organised on Alcohol. Presentations and position papers can be downloaded on the Intergroup website.
Meetings and presentations
Lara met Leticia Reyes from Families of the World Association on the 4 April 2007, to discuss EU nutrition policies. She also met a delegation from the Russian association HERA, which is leading a project on HIV/AIDS in Russia, of which EPHA is a partner. The aim of the meeting was to prepare the EPHA’s visit to Russia in early May, where several meetings with local NGOs will take place.
Lara met a group of European health NGOs and consumer organisations working on nutrition issues to coordinate advocacy activities at inernational level.
On 17 April, Hannah met with representatives from the Swedish NGO Frisksport, interested in promoting health and the benefits of physical activity, to present EPHA and what we do. Later that day she also gave a presentation about EPHA to a group of NGOs from Croatia partaking in a study visit organised by the European Citizen Action Service (ECAS), at the European Economic & Social Committee in Brussels.
On the 19 April, Anne met with Andre Cicorella, health coordinator of the French Greens party to discuss about public health and health ecology
On 24 April, Lara met the new Director of the European Health Managers Association (EHMA) to talk about common activities.
On 26 April, Anne met with representatives from the Ministry of health of the Netherlands to present EPHA and advocating for health at EU level.
