The EFSA began operating in 2002. Provisionally based in Brussels its permanet home is Parma (Italy). During the last five years it has been responsible for providing scientific advice on all matters concerning food safety in the European Union. Its work covers the whole food production process, from primary production to the supply of food to consumers.
In order to increase their visibility and the involvement of those interested in food safety in Europe, EFSA is planning a series of events throughout 2007.

Joint events with Member States and Institutional partners
Activities in EU Member States include events with: the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (April 19-20), the Slovak State Veterinary and Food Administration (June 28), and the Romanian National Sanitary and Veterinary Authority (September 11).
Exhibition at the open day of the European institutions in the Berlaymont building of the European Commission in Brussels (May 5).
Exhibition at the open day of the Joint Research Centre in Ispra, Italy (May 12).
Parma week in co-operation with local authorities (October 2007)
A conference with Parma University to foster dialogue with the Italian scientific community including scientists, researchers, and other bodies involved in risk assessment
An EFSA exhibition and information stand open to the public all week in the centre of Parma and open days at EFSA
Scientific Round Table on “Food Safety at the heart of Parma” facilitating an open discussion between EFSA’s scientists and Parma citizens
Scientific Forum, Brussels, November 20-21, 2007
The two-day scientific forum entitled "From safe food to healthy diets EU risk assessment past, present and future” will give scientists, and other interested parties from the EU and beyond, the opportunity to debate issues that fall within EFSA’s remit, including nanotechnology, animal cloning, chemical and microbiological risks and nutrition.
Food Safety Summit, Brussels, November 22, 2007
The Food Safety summit aims to encourage high-level decision makers from Member States, EU Institutions, International Organisations and non-EU partner countries, to consider the future of food and in Europe.
