A vast majority of respondents (73%) would welcome the introduction of a lower blood alcohol level for young and novice drivers. It should be noted that a recent European Parliament report on road safety called for zero-tolerance on the matter.

In addition, most of the respondents would welcome having warnings on bottles of alcohol. More interestingly, most of them (87%) would favour banning sales, and serving alcohol to young people under the age of 18. They would also approve banning alcohol advertising which targets young people.

The survey also gives data on the prevalence of binge-drinking among young people, and on the influence of prices on alcohol consumption among the youngsters.

This Eurobarometer is welcomed by Eurocare, which hopes that the exercice will be repeated in order to measure the successes of the Alcohol strategy in reducing alcohol-related harm in Europe.
