Events that EPHA attended
On the 1st February, Silvia and Anne participated in a strategic meeting on Information to patients organised by Health Action International.
On the 6th and 7th of February Silvia attended the launching of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) organised by DG RESEARCH in Brussels. This Conference was part of the European Commission attempt to promote the participation in FP7. It addressed the same topics as the one that took place in Jannuary in Bonn. During the two days conference the audience - mainly public and private researh institutes, Universities, NGO’s and national Ministers of Industry- could learn in depth all about the new Framework Programme for 2007-2013. The aim of this well-attended Conference was to explain in an simple way how to apply for funding and which are the topics to research on -ranging from renewable energies, food safety, brain deseases, ageing to international cooperation, in line with the purposes of the Lisbon Strategy.
On the 5th February Lara attended the Plenary meeting of the EU Platform on Diet, Physical Activity and Health. The meeting focused on advertisement of unhealthy foods and drinks to children. There were several presentations from leading public health experts, consumer organisations and advertisers and the debate was lively and fruitful.
On the 7th February Lara participated in a brainstorm session to prepare a dissemination strategy of the Civil Society Contact Group publication: "Civil dialogue: making it work better".
On the 16th February, Lara participated in the first meeting of 2007 of the EMEA Working Party with Patient and Consumer Organisations.
On the 23, Anne attended a brainstorming meeting on the possibility to establish a global link on nutrition, together with IDF, Cancer Research UK, the NHF, EHN, a representative from the WHO and DG Sanco.
On the 26-27 February, Lara participated in the German Presidency Conference titled "Prevention for Health. Nutrition and Physical Activity - A Key to Healthy Living", in Badenweiler, Germany. Lara was the rapporteur for one of the workshops.
On the 27, Anne and Iva attended the first preparatory meeting of the Advisory Committee for the ’Gastein conference’.
On the 28th February, Lara participated in the Information Day for the Public Health Programme in Luxembourg. On the same day, Hannah attended a hearing in the European Parliament on EU fire safety standards for cigarettes.
Events that EPHA organised
On the 14, EPHA and BEUC organised a Health and Consumer Intergroup meeting on health services and patients mobility. The presentations and a report will be shotly available on the Intergroup website.
Meetings and presentations
On the 6 February, Anne met with the Eurogroup for Animal Welfare to prepare a joint Intergroup on Avian Influenza.
On the week of the 5th February 2007, Silvia Marcos Simon gave an interview to the Spanish pharmaceutical journal, in which Silvia presented EPHA and spoke about the current discussion on information to patients at EU level. The interview was published in Spanish.
On the 13 February, Anne attended a meeting of the informal EPHA working group on Television Without Frontiers with EHN, Eurocare, BEUC, IOGT-NTO, Cancer Research UK in order to plan future activities
On the 14th February, Lara met Bernard Merkel, Head of Unit for Health Strategy in DG Sanco to discuss the involvement of the European Commission on EPHA’s International Conference "Health in the Enlarged EU" on 16-17 April 2007.
On the 19, Anne gave a presentation about the role of NGOs in advocating for health at EU level, to future journalists studying at the IHECS (a Brussels-based school of journalism).
On the 21, Anne met with the ’Mutualite Francaise’, a federation of the French social benefit fund to discuss about health services, information to patients and the health strategy.
On 27th February, Hannah gave a short presentation about EPHA to an audience of Hungarian and Polish NGOs working on Health issues, at a capacity building and training workshop entitled "NGO advocacy on environment and health at EU level", organised by the Health and Environment Alliance.
On the 27, Anne met with representatives of the OSI foundation from Kosovo to discuss potential areas of cooperation.
