2006 annual report on the state of the drugs problem in Europe
The EMCDDA has launched its 2006 Annual Report on the state of the drugs problem in Europe.

The report offers an overview of the European drugs phenomenon in 29 countries. Drug facts, figures and analyses from across Europe and by country. The report also covers latest trends and social, legal and political responses. It is available in 23 languages from the EMCDDA website.
Key issues raised that are raised by the report include :
Drugs in Europe are cheaper than ever before

A new mission statement for the EU drugs Agency
The European Parliament and the Council of the European Union have adopted a new mission statement for the [European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA).
According to the EMCDDA the new document calls on the agency to develop tools and instruments to help Member States and the European Commission to monitor and evaluate national and EU drug policies. The importance of sharing information on best practice between member states is also highlighted.
In addition, EMCDDA will work more closely with the law enforcement body, Europol, in order to monitor the drugs problem more effectively.
The agency’s new mission also aims to allows them to monitor emerging trends in "polydrug use" (the simultaneous use of more than one drug.
