The Nordic Plan of Action is a joint venture between two ministries of the Nordic Council - the ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Agriculture, Foodstuffs, and Forestry and the ministry for Social Security and Health Care.

The Nordic Action Plan includes recommendations on the restriction of marketing of unhealthy foods to children and improved product-related nutrition information. These two areas are also of particular concern for EPHA.

This plan for action has been issued on time to provide a Nordic perspective to the World Health Organisation ministerial conference in Istanbul 2006 on Counteracting Obesity and to the formulation of the WHO-Europe Strategy on non-communicable diseases.

EPHA welcomes this Nordic contribution, which supports many of EPHA’s arguments in tackling obesity at local, national, and European level.

P.S.

The Nordic Council is composed by Denmark, the Feroe Island, Greenland, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and the Aland Island.
