The publication urges players in HIV/AIDS treatment field to better facilitate access for children to antiretroviral therapy.
MSF makes a number of recommendations, specifically:
WHO and UNICEF should develop a clear strategy to ensure that greater numbers of children receive antiretrovirals;
Pharmaceutical companies should facilitate access for children to antiretroviral therapy;
National programmes and international donors should take identified specific steps.
Each of these recommendations, are broken down into a total of 16 implementable actions.
In addition, the fact sheet outlines the nature and extent of the paediatric HIV/AIDS problem by comparing rich countries to those in Africa, especially sub-Saharan Africa. Specifically, it looks at transmission, diagnosis, and treatment issues, as well as MSF experience in treating children with HIV/AIDS.
