An example of effective HIV/AIDS prevention activities in Albania
APRAD - the Albanian Association for Prevention and Rehabilitation from AIDS and Drugs - organises every Friday trainings with migrants and the Roma community to address every day life problems they may face.
Every session seeks to find practical solutions to problems identified by the participants themselves. This contributes to developing community-centered strategies and will increase the effectiveness of projects.
A specific attention is paid to gender equality, which is still at stake in Albania. Due to a very patriarcal tradition, women lack information about their rights, sexually-transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS. APRAD therefore has implemented information and prevention programme for women on sexual and reproductive rights, aiming to ensure access to health services, testing and counselling.
