Chronic kidney disease (CKD)is generally thought to be rare, complex and are usually not curable. Besides, a late referral could lead to much more complex situations (such as dialysis or kidney transplantation.

Early identification and intervention is therefore necessary to reduce health-care costs and associated diseases such as cardiovascular diseases.

The evidence-based guidelines have been endorsed by the National Service Framework for Renal Services. and aim to provide a comprehensive guide to diagnosis and management of patients.

The United Kingdom National Service Frameworks are are long term strategies for improving specific areas of care. They set measurable goals within set time frames.
