The conference was the main activity of Health Promotion week in Liepaja and the follow-up activity of Conference in Riga.

During the first part of the conference, experts from Latvian Union of Municipalities, Latvian Centre of Infectology and State Health Promotion Agency held presentations on promotion issues. The main idea was that health promotion includes - education, information, awareness raising, traditions and attitudes of people.

The second part of the conference included workshops with a view to exploring the experiences and ideas of participants. One of the workshops examined collaboration between the organisations and the benefit of these networks. The workshop came to the conclusion that increased involvement of clincial specialists (doctors, nurses, etc.) in mutual cooperation with NGOs holds benefits for all involved.

In 2006, Liepaja is the only city in Latvia in which Health week is marked. For many years this initiative has been led by the State Health Promotion Agency (SHPA) and implemented via its regional coordinators all over Latvia (see attached programme). Health Promotion week " For Healthy Liepaja!" involves all local actors in public health and health promotion field - education, primary and secondary health care institutions, the municipal department of public health, a Youth centre, the regional SHPA coordinator and NGOs.

The presentations are available in Latvian in www.nvo.lv
