In January 2006, EPHA launched a call for the expression of interest for partnership for organisations in new EU member states.

To support the approved applicants in implementing the proposed activities, EPHA’s project coordinator visited 4 organisations (Slovenia, Slovakia, Poland):

- Coalition for health in Slovenia
- Stop Smoking - NGO in Slovakia
- The Foundation for the Children of Copper Basin in Poland
- Institute for patient’s rights & medical education (IPPEZ)in Poland

The central idea of the meetings was to discuss the implementation of the proposals submitted under the call of expression of interests. The most important issue concerned the financial regulations for implementing the proposed activities, because the new financial procedure differs from the traditional implementation of the projects.

All organisations were interested in meeting Agnese in her role as EPHA’s representative. The personal contact allowed the participants to discuss various issues and concerns more easily.

P.S.

EPHA is currently working on an EU funded project called “Building the health community across Europe” (2003-2006). One of the work packages, deals with “Capacity building for CEE NGOs”. The main goals are:

- To increase the CEE NGOs knowledge of the EU structures and health policies.
- To develop their capacity to participate in European health networks and projects as well as raising the profile at EU level of CEE health status and specific health challenges.
- Integration of CEE NGOs into European health networks.
- Development of national platforms of public health NGOs in accession countries.
