The prize intends to recognise ongoing and sustainable dedication and notable leadership in protecting children from environmental health risks at local, regional, national and international level. It was awarded to EPHA Environment Network for a youth participatory project entitled "It’s our world our future too: Youth participation project on environment and health".
What is the project about?
The two-year project consisted of three phases:
a Video - DVD involving young people from disadvantaged communities in different countries and shown for the first time at the Fourth World Health Organisations Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health in Budapest (2004);
a Booklet on "Using video to involve children in Environment and Health" based on the experience of all those involved in the making of the EEN video;
a Workshop on "Young people’s investigations into chemicals and health based on a "Chemicals in home and school survey" carried out by students in different European countries and presented to EU decision-makers during EPHA international conference entitled Future Europeans: The right start in life for children and young people in Europe.
