The Pharmaceutical Group of the European Union (PGEU), an EPHA member, has recently published a study entitled ’Community Pharmacy in Europe - Lessons from deregulation - case studies’.
Carried out by the Austrian Health Institute (OBIG) the study examines the pharmacy legislation, quantitative and qualitative indicators of the service provided to citizens in six European countries.
It recognises the need for an adequate legal framework for the pharmacy sector, although this may differ from country to country. Besides, it also concludes that regulation is an additional guarantee to ensure a sustainable, effective and accessible service. It should also be noted that the study shows clearly that pharmacy systems are of high standard in all countries examined.
A copy of the study is available on request by contacting PGEU secretariat at email@example.com.
