Events that EPHA attended
Francesco attended a meeting of the EMEA/CHMP Working Group with Patients’ & Consumers’ Organisations in London on 15 February. He also attended the collaborators meeting for Public Health News magazine in London one week later. Reports from both events are available for members in the members only area.
Francesco also attended the launch of the YSAFE network, as part of the SAFE project.
Agnese attended a meeting at the Latvian Health Promotion Agency on 31 January. The capacity of health agencies to respond effectively to the major health needs in their countries was discussed. On 10 February Agnese attended a preparatory meeting at DIA+LOGS for a training seminar which will be in April in Riga. Ruta Kaupe from DIA+LOGS and Arnaud Wasson-Simon from AIDES organised the meeting. Lara visited the Civic Alliance offices in Riga on 6 and 7 February.
Anne, Lara, Roxana and Shivani met with David Hammerstein Mintz MEP to discuss EPHA position on the 7th Research Framework Programme.
Roxana participated in the Conference Integrated Child and Youth Policies in Disadvantaged Neighborhoods, held in Strasbourg, during 30 January-1 February under the auspices of the Council of Europe, German Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and French Ministry for Youth, Sport and Associative Life..
She also attended a meeting in the European Parliament on 21 February organised by the European Policy Center on the role of science in the EU decision making process and hosted by MEP Karl-Heinz Florenz.
On 22 February she participated in the Information Day 2006 held in Luxembourg on the Call for proposals 2006 - Programme of Community Action in the Field of Public Health.
Roxana, Lara and Francesco had a meeting with IPPF European Network staff on the SAFE project in which EPHA is reponsible for the communication and European visbility part.
Milena attended a discussion hosted by John Bowis MEP on health and the EU economy.
Milena also attended a conference on urban regeneration and a hearing on the application of the Community Law at national level, held in the European Parliament, together with Shivani. Reports from both events are available for members in the members only area.
Shivani attended a hearing on neglected diseases, hosted by the GUE/NGL group at the European Parliament. She also followed a discussion on the agreement on the EU Budget and a conference on e-Safety organised by the European Transport Safety Council as part of the VOICE project.
Lara and Heide attended a workshop on "Life Skills" organised by the European Commission as part of the activities of the Platform on Diet, Physical Exercise and Health. Several projects were presented on the promotion of healthy eating, with particular attention to schools.
Events that EPHA organised
On 6 February the Latvian version of the EPHA manual “Creating national Public health alliances in new member countries of the European Union” was officially launched at the Civic Alliance offices in Riga.
On 23 February EPHA organised a workshop in Prague, “Strengthening the networking on public health in Czech Republic”. During this workshop EPHA staff made several presentations, focusing on opportunities for NGOs to be involved in the EU decision-making process.
A meeting of the Health and Consumer Intergroup on Health and Nutrition Claims was held on 15 February in the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Lara was one of the speakers. A report and an attendance list are available on the Intergroup website.
Meetings
Anne met with the Irish Combat Poverty Agency, the Social Platform, Eurochild and the European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) to discuss about health inequalities and social inclusion.
Anne met with several other Brussels-based NGOs: the Civil Society Contact Group, the International Lesbian and Gay Association Europe (ILGA Europe) and the European Network Against Racism (ENAR).
Lara and Florence Berteletti (EPHA Vice-President) met two representatives from the European Policy Centre to discuss NGO involvement in their activities.
Lara participated in a meeting with the advertising industry to present the health NGO position regarding codes of conduct on responsible advertising.
Lara and Francesco met Jeremy Smith from the Civil Society Contact Group to discuss the EPHA opinion about the EU consultative procedures from the point of view of a stakeholder involved in EU policy making. The interview was part of a study due to be published in May.
The Executive Committee of EPHA met to discuss financial and policy issues.
Lara attended a meeting organised by the International Obesity Task Force (IOTF): NGOs had the opportunity to comment on the World Health Organisation - European Region plans for a Ministerial Meeting on the prevention of obesity that will be held in November in Istanbul.
Lara attended the Executive Committee meeting of EEN, where many issues were discussed about the activities for 2006.
A delegation from the EPHA Secretariat and Executive Committee met Mr Robert Madelin, Director General of DG SANCO, to talk about our activities. Lara attended two meetings with Commissioner Kyprianou where stakeholders had the opportunity to explain their positions: one on food and nutrition (in the context of the Commission Platform on Diet) and one in alcohol policy (in the context of a round table organised by the European Policy Centre).

Anne attended a Social Platform working group on social issues which discussed a common position on the Lisbon Strategy and e-inclusion. She also gave a presentation about the health agenda for 2006
