Background

On January 2005, EPHA in co-operation with the Centre for non-governmental organisation of Slovenia (CNVOS) organised a capacity building workshop “Towards a national public health platform in Slovenia”. Expert facilitators delivered training modules on the EU and Health and concepts of public health. There were also interactive exercises to develop a mission statement, membership criteria and a workplan for a new health platform. Hence, the new Slovenian Coalition for health was established on the 13 December 2005 and officially registered on the 25th of August, 2006.

Objectives

The coalition aims to encourage cooperation between NGOs that are active on the field of public health. They plan to strengthen co-operation between citizens and advocate for health-friendly policies, dialoguing an targeting the Slovene government, the national parliament and other active stakeholders at national and international level. The coalition will:

- Introduce activities that support and promote health with the purpose of improving health of all people that live in Slovenia;

- Promote rights, co-operate in decision-making, improve situation and co-operation of health care users by raising awareness of their rights;

- Support a sustained co-operation between associations of patients, consumers and institutions on the field of health care with the purpose to ensure mutual support and shaping of coalitions;

- Follow the health care development;

- Encourage local and state institutions to promote monitoring of all decisions in the sense of their influence on health;

- Establish working advisory partnership.

Working priorities

For the forthcoming year, the Slovenian Coalition for health plans to establish working mechanisms with the Slovenian government in order to establish a structure for NGOs to otain funding on the field of health promotion will be able to obtain financial means.
