According to EPHA Environment Network and Greenpeace, very little information is available about the safety of ITX, which is produced in quantities below 1,000 tonnes. However, it is likely ot be very toxic further to researches conducted by the US Environment Protection Agency (EPA).
Both NGOs declare that the REACH proposal could be a good way to prevent food threat and contamination. Hence, they regret that the current compromise is not strong enough to cover ITX because it fails to regulate chemicals that are products below the 1,000 tonnes leverage.
