Entitled “unlocking Europe’s full potential”, the work programme of the European Commission mentions the Lisbon Strategy for growth and jobs as one of its key objectives for 2006.
Prosperity, solidarity, security, better regulation and Europe as a world partner are the leading themes for 2006. Under each key words, the Commission lists a set of objectives and items for adoptions, amongst which are specifically pointed:
"Wallström Plan D" for democracy,
the adoption of a white paper on communication,
sustainable management of resources,
Improving EU regulatory framework through impact assessment, simplification of EU laws and administrative procedures,
cross-broder cooperaion against terrorism and security at external borders.

Health-related measures
It should be noted that no clear health strategy is defined in the Commission priorities for 2006. However, public health will be affected by the following items:
The revision of the Directive on the safety of toys (88/378/EC) - DG Entreprise and Industry;
A communication on gender equality “Growth, prosperity and solidarity in an equal and democratic society: a roadmap for equality between women and men” - DG Employment, Social Affairs and Equal opportunities;
A communication on a new strategy on health and safety at work 2007-202 - DG Employment, Social Affairs and Equal opportunities;
A communication on the demographic future of Europe, following the Green paper on demographic change - DG Employment, Social Affairs and Equal opportunities;
A communication on the implementation of the rights of the child - DG Freedom, Justice and Security;
Proposal for a Council Decision on Strategic Community Guidelines on cohesion - DG Regional Policy;
A communication on a coordinated approach to tackle alcohol-related harm - DG Health and Consumer Protection.
