The European Commission issued a new initiative on better regulation concerning the safety for fireworks and air bags on 14 October 2005.
The Commission proposal concerns the replacement of 25 parallel national approval procedures for fireworks and air bags by a single EU directive. This initiative is seen as an example of better regulation that may lead to cost reduction as well as ensuring respect for essential safety requirements.
With this proposal the Commission aims to reduce the risk of accidents caused by malfunctions and increase consumer safety.
