During the first part of 2005 the Parliament will handle the European Commission’s proposal regarding an Alcohol strategy.
IOGT-NTO, an EPHA member, co-organised a seminar in this issue on 26 January 2005, hosted by MEP Mrs Cecilia Malmström.
Mr Kari Paaso, the representative of DG Sanco who works on the strategy, presented the EC’s position. There were also various guests who gave their perspective on the issue.
Speakers included Dr Michel Craplet (medical advisor of ANPAA, France) who spoke about the Loi Evin - The French Law against Advertising of Alcohol; Dr Ann Hope (national alcohol policy advisor, Department of Health, Ireland), who spoke about Alcopops and Young People; and Jules Maaten MEP who spoke about the relation between Tobacco and Alcohol on a Policy Level.
Participants also included representatives of the alcohol industry and other MEPs interested in the subject.
