The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation regularly issues calls of proposals to reduce global inequalities in health.
They have recently updated their website with relevant information for grant seekers such as grantmaking strategies, areas of focus, or grantee profiles: http://www.gatesfoundation.org/GlobalHealth/
In March 2005, EPHA was part of a large bid submitted to the Gates Foundation to set up a European network on global health. The NGO consortium is led by Action Aid International
The aim is to build the capacity of non-governmental organizations working within Europe to advocate in support of achieving the three Millenium Development Goals, set up by the United Nations and related to global health.
The network will be comprised of six Core Members based in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Brussels (for the European Union).
The deadline for application was 18 March 2005.
Proposed activities should accomplish the following related objectives:
Increase political and financial commitment for global health in the five priority countries and the EU/EC;
Increase support for global health within Intergovernmental Institutions;
More effective collaboration and coordinating among NGOs working in the targeted countries and Brussels.
