The European Mobility Week 2004 will take place on 16-22 September in hundreds of cities throughout Europe. European Mobility Week makes people aware that we can change patterns of commuting today and that more sustainable means of transport need to be developed in our cities.

Safe streets for children will be the topic of this year. The objective is to reduce road safety risks for children in cities. Cities are key players in providing safe routes to schools or to playgrounds.

To launch European Mobility Week the Environment Directorate-General will host a conference in Brussels called Smart Moves for Sustainable Mobility on 16th September (09.00-16.30), in the Charlemagne building, rue de la Loi 170.
