The Dutch Presidency has released a publication on health in Europe entitled ’How do we do?’. The document provides health data and examples from across the EU but with special reference to the Netherlands.

This booklet looks at health in the EU from a Dutch perspective. If possible, data is presented for the new EU and compared to the Netherlands. Chapter one deals with aspects of health status. Chapter two focuses on determinants of health. The third chapter is dedicated to health systems, i.e. health care and public health in the EU and the Netherlands. Some special topics are discussed that are part of Dutch health care, public health and health policy.

The report states that all Member States share the same 3 health issues:

- High levels of health are a shared ambition

- High levels of health protection are a common responsibility

- High levels of healthcare quality are a common challenge

Dear Sir/Madam,

In the report "How do we do?" one is referred to a CD-ROM with data on several subjects of the text.

Downloading the text from your homepage I found no further reference on the existence of a printed edition.

Therefore I was wondering if the said statistics were also available online or were I could obtain the booklet with the CD-ROM.

Dear Mr Schaufler,

the abovementioned report was produced at the Centre for Public Health Forecasting (VTV) of the RIVM, the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, on request of the Directorate for International Affairs of VWS (Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport).

May I suggest you contact the RIVM directly regarding the issue you mention in your message. Their home page (English version) can be reached at the following address:
